THINGS
TO
DO
Hiking,
mountain biking, climbing, caving, it's all up for grabs in the high Genal.
The villages are linked by marked and numbered trails, following the old
mule paths, drovers roads, and
smugglers' byways. Bikers can also navigate most of these, as well as
the numerous dirt roads
that criss-cross the valley. For walkers a superb array of excursions
are available from our doorstep. A stunning 5 hour walk to Ronda with
breathtaking views of Africa, or leisurely ambles to neighbouring villages
through resplendent valleys. Guided walks utilising old secret muleteer
paths are also available.Don't forget your climbing legs, things can get
a bit steep! Anyone enjoying dark dank holes can choose from a wealth
of caves and canyons, and climbers can have a decent stretch up on the
cliffs of LosRiscos or take a drive to the gorge of El Chorro.
If
all that sounds a bit much like work, a spot of bird-watching or painting
might be up your street. Catch a sight of the majestic Spanish
Imperial Eagle or revered Egyptian Vulture riding the thermals above,
whilst capturing sightings of Hoopoe, Thekla's Lark and Firecrest
below. We also thoroughly recommend an afternoon on a local wine binge,
guides available.
Please contact us for more information on routes, maps, etc. We
can also arrange accomodation in other villages if you would like to walk
a loop of the Alto Genal, the whole valley, or even into the Sierra
de las Nieves or Sierra Grazalema.
